So you are trying to install ubuntu on your laptop , desktop and usb stick. Since ubuntu is free to use you can install it on however many machines you like ( http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/why-is-it-free if you want more info) .

to have ubuntu on a usb stick and for it to remember settings and data you will need to set up persistency ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent ) , and go from there.
