Trouble with a password on a document

I bought a book in pdf form a while back, and I am not able to open it. It says that a password is required because the pdf is locked. I don't remember this being the case when I bought the book, and none of the passwords I can think of see to work. Can you help me access the password or do I need to contact the seller of the pdf book?
