@judy
if the pdf file hasn't been locked, you can copy the contents then paste it into writer where you can transfer it into calc. otherwise, there is a trial program that let's you convert pdf to excel format files. you can use it free for 30 days, after that you have to buy it. it works on wine. you can get it from www.download.com

@arochester
your first link (poppler utils) converts pdf into an image file only. it doesn't tranform the pdf back to its original format.

pdf import in draw doesn't work, as there's a bug where text is converted into blank boxes.

Hi Judy,

I'll add my 2 cents to this discussion.

PDF is designed to be a publication only format -- it was never originally designed to allow for conversion to an editable format. information is lost during the conversion from a spreadsheet to a PDF (eg any formulae that may have been in the spreadsheet).

The ideal thing to do is to request that the person who sent the PDF resend the document in an editable form (eg as an excel document).

If this is entirely not possible, I would recommend following marcus' instructions. However, be aware that you may have to do some work to restore the spreadsheet back to a usable form, due to the aforementioned information loss.

The above is true for *all* operating systems, and is in no way OS specific.

Can you help with this problem?
