Hi :)

When you are booting up the machine do you get to a menu offering lots of different options for booting into Ubuntu? If so the 2nd option should have "recovery mode" near the end of it's line. Choose "recovery mode" and when you get to a menu try choosing "Clear some space" & finally try "resume normal boot". Hopefully that might help.

Please can you let us know how fast your cpu is and how much Ram your machine has? Typing "free -m" on a command-line should show how much ram. Also please let us know how large your hard-drive is. Do you have an internet connection? Also do you have an Ubuntu Cd?

Thanks and regards from
Tom :)

Hi :)

Your machine sounds quite good. Do you have a decent internet connection and can you download Ubuntu 8.04 or 9.10 or 10.04(beta for testing) easily?
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/

7.10 is very old release now and needs to be upgraded because the software repositories are all closed so fixing broken packages or installing new software is almost impossible. If you have the old Ubuntu 7.10 Cd then that might help.

Did you setup a separate /home partition too?

When you boot up Ubuntu do you get a menu with choices such as "memtest" and several items for Ubuntu? If so choose the 2nd Ubuntu option, the one that has "recovery mode" near the end of it's line and see what options the new menu gives you there.

Please let me know any problems you have with this or just let me know how this goes.
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

Can you help with this problem?
