Ubuntu 8.04 sound problems...create more problems.

Asked by lisaxlisa

Since installing 8.04 my music players have not worked. I have finally started tinkering with this.
I saw that some people said it was due to the Pulse Audio and a quick fix was to install the old sound:

sudo apt- get install esound

WELL, what seemed like a quick and easy fix has somehow immobilized my linux.
For whatever reason, now I can not use it. The toolbar is blank and will not allow me to access applications, home, etc.

MY question: is there a way to restore 8.04 to before trying to install esound?
I'd rather have it functioning without music players than nothing at all.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

You must be connected to the net, start your pc, when your Ubuntu system is up (still with reported issue)

Please press ctrl+alt+f2 the make login with your user and password

Then type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

(if the system ask you a password give your user password, you will not see nothing when you type it, then press enter)

then to reboot your system type:

sudo reboot

Hope this helps
