shrinking image files down

I would like to shrink my photo jpg. image down from 2MB to 500 KB so I may post a image on a website. How do I do I shrink the image file size?

I don't know a direct method of 'shrink' the file.size but reducing the image width and height will solve the problem.

You can use imagemagick or mogrify to reduce size/quality to make te file smaller physically as well as on the disk, you can also compress the image using zip/rar/gzip etc.
