How do I compress a .jpeg image?

I need to reduce the size of my jpeg on ubuntu. Can someone please help?

Sure.

JPG as a format, always compresses an image - so you have options:

1. If you're using GIMP you can try to 'scale the image' an save it (http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-image-scale.html)
2. Reduce the quality of the image in GIMP (http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-images-out.html#id396061)
3. You can just use ZIP or tarball the file, this will reduce it by a little bit...not that much though
