Restoring Thunderbird from the disaster of enigmail

Asked by Randy Mentor

I installed enigmail. Tried it out and it doesn't suit what I was hoping for.
So I removed the extension.
Alas, all my email is still showing as plain text, full of long links, no html.
I can't embed my own images in an email any more; I do that frequently.

How do I get back to Thunderbird default without losing all my account info and messages?
If I simply copy the hidden .thunderbird folder and then restore it to a new installation, would I also not restore the "mess"?

Please advise.

Post on the Mozilla forum as well. You may get advice there too. If you get a fix there, please post it on here too.
Thanks

Well I did a fresh install, starting over.
Problem not solved really in backtracking from Enigma installation, but I grew impatient and decided to sacrifice a few things, like all my folders.
