How to export contact details/aliases/contacts?

Asked by James Lewis

I have often re-installed a clean OS, and copied the .purple folder so as to preserve all my settings, local aliases and accounts in pidgin. Is there any reasonable way to do this with Empathy?.. gpodder and liferea offer an export facility and some of the newer apps are syncing via Ubuntu One. There are now few reasons not to do a fresh install or an install on a new computer and simply restore app settings... if Empathy does not have this kind of feature I believe it should be seriously considered, mabe an Ubuntu One sync.

I'm not sure what you mean by be patient, are you already looking at this?... In any case, thanks for the answer, just copying the files is sufficient for me.

What it the significance of .gconf/apps/empathy ?

Assume it will get a sync option sooner or later.

Good question, next question ;-) Seems only to content some interface config.
If you need to backup this, you could make a dump file with gconftool.
man gconftool
