Previous Conversations blank

Asked by Dilkington

Hello - can anyone help ?

My Previous Conversation list is always blank ! - I can see the users that I have chatted with, but clicking on a user has no effect, nothing comes up in any of the other panes and no other windows are fired up ......I am guessing this should work.

Where do conversations get logged to ? - if I know that at least I can manually look for them.

Many thanks

Empathy logged conversations by default. It has a “View Previous Conversations” menu item (F3), which opens a “Previous Conversations” window with two tabs: “Search”, where you can filter conversations by search text, and “Conversations”, where conversations can be filtered by account and then person and then date and then individually searched.

yep thats the screen thats blank ! - the "Conversations" tab is always empty

so where does it log them by default ?

I can access the screen which *should* show the previous conversations but nothing is there apart from a list of user names that I have chatted with. Shouldn't clicking on a specific user actually show you the previous conversation. The filters and other items have no effect that I can see as there are no conversations listed anyway.

They should be in Places > Home Folder
Press Ctrl + H to show hidden files and foldes
Look in .mission-control or .config/Empathy

Many thanks wojox,

checking those dirs I can see that there are no files in there that contain chat data :( - there are some config files in there

I have two accounts :

a jabber acct - this is in the .mission-control folder, but contains nothing.

a sametime acct - this is in the .config/Empathy folder and contains the following files
-rw-r--r-- 1 dilkington dilkingon 232 2009-12-15 11:17 contact-groups.xml
-rw-r--r-- 1 dilkington dilkintong 93 2009-12-16 09:10 geometry.ini

so from the sounds of it empathy is not actually loggin anything which is why there is nothing showing up in the UI.

Any ideas ?

Ok solved this.

I found the chat transcripts - they were in ~/.local/share/Empathy/logs

now I have two issues :

1) no idea why the jabber acct was not working - but I backed up the logs, then deleted all of the logs and deleted the acct. Then recreated the account and put the logs back and hey presto all fine.

2) The sametime acct still odes not work properly. This is due to a bug in Empathy. Contacts are added into the log files under the following structure which appears to be related to the identifier on the contact: cn=John Smith, o=orgname. Now Empathy doesn't understand this and only looks in cn=John Smith. If I move the log files from the sub folder o=orgname into the cn=John Smith folder they magically appear in the screen.

Anyway at least now I can raise a bug with Empathy for the sametime issue.

Can you help with this problem?
