Empathy crashes when joining an IRC room withouth hash (e.g. "ubuntu")

Asked by Jonas G. Drange

Empathy -> Add IRC account -> join room "ubuntu".

Using Empathy 2.28.1

The debug window is cleared, but the butterfly errors

level: error: /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/butterfly/handle.py:56: DeprecationWarning: object.__new__() takes no parameters
level: error: instance = object.__new__(cls, connection, *args)

remains.

Where do I find a log?

?? This path doesn't exist. You're supposed to add an account from
Edit -> Accounts -> add

Main menu:
Room -> Join
Inbox e.g.: #ubuntu
works here.

What if you join "ubuntu" without a hash (#)? Does it still work?

I should've filed a bug.

With "ubuntu" only, nothing happens at all.
What's the point in not using the hash?

As I said. This should be a bug.

"What's the point"? What's the point in debugging/testing stuff? Gee, I don't know.

yep i have the same problem not been able to connect to the ubuntu room with or without hash, had to use another client, can't even get the list of rooms to appear. If it crashes the app its defo a bug with hash or without at least a message saying room not found or auto add the hash if not present would be much better.
