Cam will not work in Skype

Asked by Helen

Initially i tried to make a skype call and i was able to receive sound and video but not send either.
The mic worked in sound recorder app but not in skype settings.
The cam worked in the skype settings but no option to start cam when in a call.

I eventually downloaded pavucontrol and now the mic is working during a call and i am still able to receive sound but now i can not receive or send video in a call.

Any help is much appreciated.

Lucid is no longer supported in any way on the desktop. It is EOL. I suggest you upgrade to Precise either via online update or clean install. Precise is LTS and supported til April 2017.

Thanks for the info. I have done a fresh install of 12.04 which has cured the problem with the cam.
I am still having trouble with the audio tho.
I have installed pavucontroler again and under the audio input tab there are 2 slider bars to control front left and front right input.
When i seperate the bar the mic is able to pick up sound but after a few seconds they just move back together again and then the mic stops working!!

Can you help with this problem?
