Empathy not logging in on ANY account.

So I'm running Ubuntu using VirtualBox. Once in Empathy I have two account, one for hotmail, one for gmail. When I click loggin on either of them, it just thinks for about a second and then stops and remains red.
I'm pretty clueless.
Any ideas on what's up?
