empathy package

i get, "error sending message": unknown and "unable to send message" not logged in . i get this message when using empathy to text any phone ...= can you help me ?

trying to send a text message to a cell phone using empathy, i have them in my contact list, they show as available,...however when i send, it does not go thru, and empathy then gives me an error message which says "not logged in" the message should just go right thru to the phone! i have uninstalled empathy reinstalled empathy and evan reinstalled ubuntu and evan upgraded to ubuntu 10,10
