you need to install skype in ubuntu...there is no option of linking in empathy...at the best empathy developers can be asked to add skype

Supposedly, integrating Skype into Empathy is *possible*, but tricky, using the Pidgin plugin; I've never succeeded, personally.

If you really *need* a single IM client that can integrate Skype, then use Pidgin; there's a plugin for it that allows it to control an existing Skype instance via it's API (you still need a separate instance of Skype running, though).

However, Pidgin doesn't support VoIP (ie: voice calls) (yet?), and, in my experience, the Skype plugin kept crashing, pulling Pidgin down with it. Was never able to figure out if the problem was with the plugin, or with Skype.

Can you help with this problem?
