How do you save favorites in IRC, without choosing auto-connect?

Asked by peterkirn

Is there a way to save IRC chat rooms in the Favorite Rooms without selecting auto-connect? The present behavior appears to be, unless I'm missing something:
1. Join a room, and it appears in the Manage Favorite Rooms dialog and on the Room menu.
2. Select Auto-Connect, and this setting persists. There is also a "Remove" option for deleting a room.
3. Leave a room, however, and the room disappears.

I would expect the room settings in step #3 to persist even after leaving, but I don't know if this is a defect or if I'm describing a feature request or if there is another way to save the room. Thanks!

Hi Peter,

I'm using Empathy 2.30.0.1 here, Lucid LTS 10.04 RC, and it worked for me. I've joined a room, selected the "Favorite room" in the room menu and it was added to the favorite rooms' list, the auto connect box unselected. I left the room and looked the list, it was already there. Which versions of empathy and Ubuntu are you using?

Thanks!

Ursula

Also on 2.30.0.1/Lucid RC. Ah, I see now. I was unaware of that message (used to Pidgin still, I think)

So the behavior is this:
1. Rooms appear temporarily in the Favorite Rooms dialog even if you have NOT favorited them
2. Marking the room with Conversation > Favorite Room saves them.

I think an enhancement request would therefore be - and see if you agree / if I'm missing something -- that the option to favorite a room would be upon joining rather than exclusively via the Conversation menu, as this makes the option more discoverable. And rooms shouldn't appear in Favorite Rooms when they haven't been marked favorite; that's a (minor) defect.

I'll open up a ticket on that unless there's further comment.

Thanks!
