how do you setup the empathy's proxy

I want to use the empathy to chat my friends on ubuntu 9.10, but I can't setup the proxy of empathy so my empathy can't connect the internet although I have searched the key words, but I haven't found the answer . so please help me .Thanks a lot.

Why would you need to setup the proxy for Empathy? Are you behind a firewall or something which would block the normal port needed for the communication? Normally, Empathy works on the default settings (Direct connection to the Internet) - you just have to configure your account name and password.

this is a known bug empathy dont supprot proxy at the moment see bug 304889
