Dial telephone numbers with Ekiga

Asked by Markus Thielmann

I'm using Ekiga 2.0.3 with Ubuntu Feisty. I also installed a recent snapshot (2.1.0-20070523-03) to see if the problem still exists there.

I'm unable to call ordinary phone numbers out of my address book.

I set up a PC-To-Phone Account with sipgate.de. I'm able to call ordinary phone lines quite simple, I just need to enter the phone number and everything works quite fine.

I'm still not able to call any number out of the address book. If I select a contact, right click on it and select call Ekiga just does nothing. It doesn't even offer a error message. I tried reformatting the number, but I'm unable to manage the problem.

Any ideas on how to solve this issues are greatly appreciated.

I got an answer out of the Ekiga IRC channel. It seems ekiga does not support dialing numbers out of the address book and it's questionable if it will in the next version.
