Ekiga mutes the mic if DTMF used

When I make a call the mic works until I use the dialpad to try and generate a DTMF tone. At that time no DTMF tone is generated and the mic is muted and stays muted until the call is terminated. This makes IVR systems impossible to use. It is Ubuntu 8.04 with Ekiga 2.0.12. I'm open to suggestions.
