No audio (I think) my mic and headphones work in other apps, but audio sliders don't work in Ekiga, cant do the sip:500@ekiga test

Asked by betsy_kevin

Can't tell if ekiga dosent' work or my headphone/mic setup doesnt' work. Echo test is ok in the setup demon, but I can't work audio sliders in preferences. when I do the "sip:500@ekiga" test I can't hear anything though the plug says I'm connected. Any ideas?
thanks!

I've got the same problem. In the configuration step 7 I can test my settings. I can hear my echo, so I'm sure that the headset works correctly but when I dial <email address hidden> I can't hear me, but on the screen I can see that my mic is still working.
So I have dialed the number of a friend. I coud contact him but he has the same problem as I.
Is there anyone who have an answer?

When you have Ekiga up and running, call up the Configuration Druid
under the edit menu item, go thru the configuration to make sure that
you have the correct selection for your Audio Input and Audio Output,
then run the test that is shown on that page....You should get a
screen that reflects your input and output by recording that
test..Does it work ok?

Get back to me after reporting your results with this suggestion.

Peace.......................ed

In a related case.....

I just signed up. Got the 500 to work. Then it said it couldnt register. Now it is registering, but I am not receiving any audio. I haev done the set up multiple times, and done the test. Yes I hear myself. But no matter what I call I dont hear anything.

Yes my mic is working. I can see the "meter" move.

Lets go step at a time.
1. When you run the Ekiga configuration and on Page 7, does the test work both ways?
2. When you call the 500 and do the test. Does the playback work ok ?
3. Are you using a web cam and doers it work ok?

1. Yes the audio works both ways. I can hear myself after the 4 seconds.
2. No playback does not work. However, I can hear the "hang up" beeps. So the audio card is working.
3. Not using a web cam right now.

The first time I tried the 500 test, it worked. Now it doesnt?? None of the numbers work. No audio coming through. Mic appears to be working/

Go to Tools on the Ekiga menu and select call history. This should
give you a hint of what is happening in the 500 test.

Lets hear it<g>

You might also send me the General History under the Tools menu..

Lets see if that might help.

Hi there,
I noticed that this thread was marked as "Solved" but I don't see a solution and have the same problem.
If someone could guide me in the right direction I'd be most grateful.
I too can hear all the Sound events but when I call the 500 ekiga.net test I can't hear anything. I can see the microphone level jumping as I talk, but the the speaker level is all dark.
Skype works (even though it's OSS based) and "arecord | aplay" test echoes fine.

I've checked the history, and can't see anything out of the ordinary, call log just says that user cleared the call and the general history has the following:

02:04:30 Calling sip:<email address hidden>
02:04:32 Opened Default for recording with plugin ALSA
02:04:32 Opened codec PCMA for transmission
02:04:32 Opened Default for playing with plugin ALSA
02:04:32 Opened codec PCMA for reception
02:04:32 Opened the video device using the "Picture" video plugin
02:04:32 Opened codec H261 for transmission
02:04:32 Opened codec H261 for reception
02:04:32 Connected with <email address hidden> using Ekiga.NET
02:07:27 Closed codec PCMA which was opened for transmission
02:07:27 Closed codec PCMA which was opened for reception
02:07:27 Closed codec H261 which was opened for transmission
02:07:27 Closed codec H261 which was opened for reception
02:07:28 Local user cleared the call

I also ran the ekiga with the debug option and got the following:

These are my symptoms too. All the local tests check out, but when I make a call, there is no audio (either way). They can't hear me, and I can't hear them.

Hello Guys,

Seems to be strictly related to my problem with Ekiga; It's just the same. I just get registered, all the devices are configured and working, the dubugging parameter tells me Ekiga uses my audiocard just fine, but I can't hear any sounds coming in and out when dialing the test.

What is more weird is that I was just switching some network here at home; I've got a TPLINK router plugged to my ISP hub and, when I disabled my radio and connect through the wired network (directly hub to the computer) the test just gives me sound.
I'm wondering in what way this problem regards the network, so I opened up my all the necessary ports on the router and (when connecting on Wi-Fi) but no success so far.

I had the identical symptoms (incoming and outgoing sound off or intermittent, sliders sometimes not working, etc.) with version 3.2.5 on Ubuntu Karmic. Karmic updated yesterday, and the problem appears to be solved. Probably a system problem, not an Ekiga problem as far as I can tell. It works great. Give it a try.

Well, it wasn't solved. Now it isn't working at all. Not even a brief test message. There are also many problems with the UI crashing, etc.

To tell you the truth, I would suggest moving on. This program is not working. Too bad, because it looked good.
