Dialing numbers using Ekiga

Asked by Richard Pullano

I have an Ekiga account for PC to PC and it works fine to their test number.
Now I have a Diamondcard account for PC to telephone number account and this is where I am having problems. The account shows "registered" so all the coding is correct (I assume). I try calling my home phone and I cannot. It makes no connection at all. I tried 1+ the area code and then the number. In the Ekiga directions it says to use the country code. BUT country code from where?? Do I need to use this if I am calling withing the same country (from my pc to my phone)?
I tried just the area code and the number and that doesn't work either. I am sure it will work if I know the syntax of the dialed numbers for calls within Canada and for calls outside Canada.
Thanks,
Richard

I have been able to complete a call from my PC to my home phone by dialing 0011 then the area code (204), then my number. I still don't know the syntax for this string, just that it works. I previously tried just 1, then the area code and the number and it didn't work.

Hi,

The syntax is:
"00" followed by the country code, and by the phone number you want to reach.

Country code refers to this:

Thanks Yamick
According to the information on that page, all North America is treated
as one country and only 1 + area codes + phone numbers need to be dialed.
This does not explain having to dial 0011 then the area code, then the
telephone number.
I tried 1+area code+ tel number and it failed.
At least I can get it to work in North America.

Hi,

Can you try those rules?
"Dialing rules

Dial phone numbers you wish to call in international format. E.g. "sip:<email address hidden>" for USA +1-800-200-1000 number. No international prefix like 011 or 001 is necessary.

If ekiga.net is your default account, dialing sip:32456555 will be rewritten as sip:<email address hidden>. Which is a call to another ekiga.net user.

Dialing sip:003245655511 or sip:<email address hidden> will be rewritten into sip:<email address hidden>. That will be a call to 3245655511 Belgium phone number using Diamondcard.us service."

I have solved the problem by changing software and getting rid of Ekiga.
I also use Skype and can dial numbers all over the world with little problem, not so with Ekiga. It may be my configuration or it may be something I don't quite understand, it just doesn't seem to work for me.
Thanks for al, the help.
