How to quit "ed" directory? what ever I type comes back with a ? mark

      Unless you want to quit unconditionally. If you have unsaved work and don't WANT it saved, if you made a mistake and you just want to get out, use a capital Q.

`man ed' describes q and Q; search for "quit".
