Upcoming Encryptfs deprecation on Ubuntu 18.04

Asked by J. Snow

According to the Ubuntu 18.04 trello board the encryptfs option on the installer will be removed (reference: https://trello.com/c/yjBpcmJh/173-remove-the-ecryptfs-option-from-the-installer).

Can you provide more info on this decision and explain what plans you have for the users who already have encryptfs installed? This is a significant update that is likely to impact a large number of your users. I hope you have a plan to handle automatically the transition.

Bionic is not ready and not stable. I suggest you report a bug

I assume that you misinterpret the document.

The title says "...remove-the-ecryptfs-option-from-the-installer...", which for me tells that you will not get an option for ecryptfs when you do a new installation from scratch.

I am very sure that existing ecryptfs-formatted partitions will be supported further, also after a release upgrade to 18.04 (or higher). A packaged version of ecryptfs-utils does exist for bionic.

Yes, indeed I misinterpreted the document. Thanks for the clarification Manfred. Sounds reasonable. :)
