I have tried 7 or 8 times to download the eclipse-cdt to no avail

Asked by Gary Corell

I am in the Philippiines and suffer from frequent ( apparent ) disconnects and slowdowns from my "provider".
Each time I then have to restart. which also means delete the old directory bzr was downloading to. ( I think).
Also bzr keeps complaining I havent provided a Launchpad ID. But I have never been asked for one, nor do I have any idea where to put it, if I knew what it was.
I know this sounds like too ignorant to be able to use the plugin or eclipse even if I had it.

Added to that, I'm trying to install it on Ubuntu 11.04 which you dont seem to support any more.

Can you help me!! ??

I am very interested in also using eclipse with cdt support on my eZ430F2013 stick. any likelyhood of that?

as for the launchpad ID, I have looked all over the box mine came in and dont see anything that might qualify. I got mine directly from TI about a month or two after they first came out.

Natty is EOL and not supported in any way. I recommend you perform a full backup then clean install Precise. It is LTS and supported til April 2017.

eclipse-cdt works well in 12.04. I use it all the time. As Actionparsnip as pointed out 11.04 is not supported any more so you will not be able to upgrade or install new software.

Upgrade to either Ubuntu 12.04 or Xubuntu 12.04 , Xubuntu works better on older machines but you can try both without installing.

eclipse-cdt works well on either.

I Dont understand how 12.04 is going to be good for 4 years , and 11.04
only good for, what? 3?
Anyway, I do have a an eclipse (Galileo )installed but it only has
java installed in it.
If I could just get the cdt plugins I'd be good to go. I think.

( I've tried to install 12.04 and 12.10 here, but kept having to fall
back to 11.04. if I could have the 12.xx installed we probably wouldnt
be having this discussion, hi hi
I also tried kubuntu 11.10 and 12.10 with no luck. long story, dont
ask. If I really had my druthers, I'd be using PCBSD 9.2 release)

You may be able to install the cdt plug-ins from the eclipse site but the version of Ubuntu is not supported any more the repositories don't exist. Actually that's not quite true they have been moved see here - it might help.

http://askubuntu.com/q/91815/107450

However since Natty is not supported there are no updates, not even bug and security fixes so I really can't recommend you continue to use it.

If Ubuntu 12.04 does not work well on your system try Xubuntu
http://xubuntu.org/getxubuntu/

or Lubuntu
http://www.lubuntu.net/

There both run on older hardware so may be better for you.

Ubuntu have two types of release

Standard releases of Ubuntu since 13.04 are supported for 9 months

LTS or Long Term Supported releases of Ubuntu since 12.04 are supported for 5 years

the schedule for Xubuntu, Lubuntu and some of the other variants is slightly different.

So, it sounds like I'd be better off using a straight Debian install,
what do you think?
would that be supported longer than Ubuntu?

I'm not 100% sure of Debian's support policy but I think you are correct it tends to get updated less often so may be supported for longer.

If you decide to go that way then you can find the download here:
http://www.debian.org/distrib/

We don't support Debian here however so we can't help if you have any problems

Debian have a support page here:
http://www.debian.org/support

And their forums are here:
http://forums.debian.net/

one more question, Does your group have an IRC channel ?
I've been using #flightgear, #fg_cantene, #ubuntu ( very infrequently)
and best of all #pcbsd on freenode.
I have spent much of the day today, building a Ubuntu 12.10 in
VirtualBox but boy is it sluggish!! I've only got a core duo 3.4 GHz box
to run it in.

Yes on freenode we have

#ubuntu -- for questions about currently supported versions

#ubuntu+1 -- for the next release in delevopment (alpha/beta testing) currently 13.10

#ubuntu-bugs -- for bug reports

There are also channels for specific countries such as

#ubuntu-uk -- For the United Kingom

There are plenty of others too

------------------

If speed is a problem as I've mentioned before Xubuntu and Lubuntu will run on lower hardware and because they have a simpler desktop will be significantly faster for most people. They are also fully supported Ubuntu variants so you can get support here, on AskUbuntu or in the Ubuntu Forums.

THank you all for your responses. THat last message started off wrong.
Cant remember what I started too say, got interrupted. YOU dont have a
problem, I do hi hi.
As for installing a whole new OS, I dont think so at this time, I've
just got too much work, time, and absolute frustration invested in this
one. add to that, my provider has what they mistakenly describe as a
"Fair Use Policy" limitimg me to 800MB/day as if I could ever hope to
get 800mb downloaded at 2G speeds. add to that, there is nothing fair
about it as, were it fair, it would insure that I have bandwidth as
well as anybody else, but it dont work that way!!

So I'll fall back to SCiTe as an editor and part time IDE for
programming with the msp430-gcc. but that raises another question or
two, or......
biggest one I can think of, Should MSP430Debug permit me to debug
programs in the launchpad using the C source. or am I limited to
trying to use an Assembly .lst file to assist me? If so, how do I do that?
A second line question applies to the eZ430F2013 usb stick development
device especially since it has available the set of 3 "target boards"
for $15 and itself only costs $24. Has anybody used their launchpad
toolchain on that device?

Doesn't make Natty supported. Call Microsoft and ask for help with Windows 98.

Same deal.

Natty is dead and not supported. It is EOL.
