with version 0.4b47-3 of dump no reliable incremental dumps possible

Asked by Arie Maaskant

In the Ubuntu version of 22.04 (LTS) is still dump version 0.4b47-3 been used. With this version one cannot
do incremental-dumps anymore, because these depend on persistent partition naming in /var/lib/dumpdates of
the partitions. /dev/sdxx naming is not persistent anymore when one has muliple disks.
The problem is solved with version 0.4b47-4 (in may 2022). I wonder why this patched version isn't included in
Ubuntu22.04 because it is a serious bug in my opnion.

The new version of dump was only published after publication of Ubuntu 22.04.

If the new version provides critical bug fixes or important improvements, then please create a bug report request a SRU or a backport.

What you could try is manually installing the dump package for kinetic on your jammy system. I do not see any change in the dependencies, so this should be possible.

I did so and did some tests. As far as i can see it works. Thank you very much. I can use the ¨dump" command again, as i
did since unix 6 (approximetly in the year 1982 :)
