Dovecot requires MySQL?

Asked by Watts Martin

I'm trying to set up a new server primarily for a Django app, and I'll be using lighttpd and PostgreSQL, not Apache and MySQL. I need to get a simple mail server up and running and wanted to use the dovecot-postfix package to do this.

...but, it seems that dovecot-common depends on libmysqlclient16. Which means that to get Dovecot, I must get MySQL.

I don't see anything on Dovecot's site that says that it REQUIRES MySQL. It should be able to use PostgreSQL, or MySQL, or SQLite, or indeed no database at all. (Which is what I want to use.) Is there a way to set an option for the install to tell it *not* to depend on MySQL?

Actually, it is compiled with *support* for MySQL, which means it just needs the MySQL client library to be present. It doesn't need any MySQL/PostgreSQL/LDAP/Kerberos/whatever server to run though.

In other words, don't worry about it.

All right, I shall try the "don't worry about it" tack. :)

(I apologize if I was preemptively paranoid; several years of dealing with the, ah, over-enthusiastic dependencies of MacPorts can do that....)
