I just discovered that there is no dog in karmic, does someone know the reason?

Mh :-( Is that common to remove packages at all just because it is not further developed? I mean, also without new features, it is a great tool...

Yes as there is no support and bugs reported will not be worked on. Projects are abandoned a lot so to take them all up and keep them going is massively unfeasible.
