upgrading docker.io with aufs backend

Asked by Dennis Jakobsen

So, Ubuntu decided to upgrade docker in the middle of an LTS release, but refusing to if i have 'aufs' backend .. i have spent 2 days going through guides on how to migrate images and containers and i still dont have a working solution..

So my question is whether i can just switch to the 'overlay2' storage driver temporarily while upgrading and then switch back after?

I'm going out on a limb here and going to assume that unsupported is still far away from obsolete and the actual removal of this 'aufs' backend driver?

The overlay2 thing is from the official docs so I'd say try it. If you can, snapshot the server or at least take a full bacukup in case of catastrophe. This is very strange indeed....wasn't aware of this

Can you help with this problem?
