how do i reset my screen resolution

my screen is smaller than the screen itself, how do i fix the problem, i'v tried through the screen settings and it has done nothing...

You need to install and configure video drivers first. Can you please provide the output of:

lsb_release -a; sudo lshw -C display

See if you can do something in system<preferences>display.Also it will be good to follow actionparsnip advice.
