Using displayconfig-gtk to install a display monitor driver

Asked by Doru Horișco

In the current version of Ubuntu (8.04 Hardy Heron) it is not possible to install the driver for a display monitor,
that is not recognize by default by the system. And by that the resolusion and the refresh rate
can not be set by humans no mater the methods are.

There was a time, in the develoment satges of Hardy when the option to
install the display monitor driver from an inf file was possible, but the problem
was „fixed” and now is no longer possible.

In the previous version of Ubuntu that was possible.
The question is how can we do that in Ubuntu Hardy

The question is how we can install a monitor display driver în Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron.
My monitor display, among countless others, it is not in the data base.
The display is LG L1718S FLATRON

I too have the same problem with an LG W2442PA.
I am trying Ubuntu for the very first time, have been running SUSE for the last 12 years.
So far I'm very impressed with the installation except for the above problem (SUSE just looked at the .inf file and configured the display correctly)
Some help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
