help emergencie upgrade to desmume version 0.9.13 with gtk3 in deb

Asked by andykimpe

hello I am trying to have the stable version 0.9.13 of desmume in deb

because the developers of Ubuntu and Debian continue to provide 0.9.11 which has been obsolete for a long time

However, I am not the greatest specialist in Debian packaging.

nor even a developer

so please if you can help to solve this problem

and in the future if the developers of ubuntu and debian

can also follow the developments and updates of the packages which would be good to create

because he continues to put in stable versions of Ubuntu and Debian packages which are clearly obsolete

and there are also other packages which have remained on obsolete versions for a long time and were therefore simply deleted instead of being updated.

I think for example mock which is the equivalent of pbuilder for rpm

So I thank in advance anyone who can help.

you would find what has already been done here

The version numbers of the packages in Ubuntu do not contain the string "ubuntu". This means that the packages have been copied from Debian without Ubuntu-specific modifications.

As far as I can see from https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/desmume also Debian has only versions less and equal 0.9.11

It seems that Debian check the wrong repository for updated versions (sourceforge instead of github).
Somebody affected should create a bug report in Debian's bug tracker to request that Debian update their data and packages.

ok but that doesn't solve the problem what I'm asking

is to have a functional deb immediately

and not in 2 years in the next LTS

I try to do it myself and it doesn't work

look on github there are only errors when building

what I'm asking for is help with the fix

in order to see an up-to-date and functional deb immediately

and not in 2 years

moreover if ubuntu stupidly copy pastes without doing the slightest check you might as well close the project immediately and replace it with debian

its was moved to github in 2021

have and in 2024

so already misstep stupidly send back and only on debian

Ubuntu employees also have the responsibility to check and not to stupidly copy and paste

Why do you put so many newline characters into your text? It makes reading and understanding it much harder, if not even impossible.
Please use standard text formatting (including Capital characters and punctuation marks) and stop personal offence!

You might try https://forums.desmume.org/ maybe you can get help there.

I already posted on the git after are not specialized in debian packaging
so it's up to the Ubuntu and Debian specialist to provide a solution
I doubt who and many specialists on their forum
while here there are more than twenty of you who have been notified
there is a guy amidevous who has just posted a solution which seems to work
but seeing who says to delete all debian flags
I doubt this will be recognized as valid for official packaging
normally this should have been done correctly since 2021
it is therefore normal that I ask the person responsible here to do what is necessary
it's not on the desmume forum which allows you to publish the package as far as I know, up to date on the official repositories as far as I know
this should have been done in 2021 and in 2024
given the delay it was all normal for me to ask the person responsible to correct their error

Ranting here does not help.
Create a bug report in the Debian bug tracker.

for information I already tried to report it here
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?package=desmume
and nothing is sent, the form only refreshes the page without saving or transmitting anything
I also sent an email to the person who packaged the expensive debian package to the following email <email address hidden> without any response
moreover even if it is corrected in debian it would be corrected when in ubuntu in the next version and not before
moreover I want to remind you unlike debian
ubuntu and managed by a company called canonical
which means that unlike debian
people who manage ubuntu are employees
who are therefore paid to manage the project
which is not the case on the debian project
which also means that the responsibility of ubuntu for the problems of compaction and the lack of updating is 3 times greater than that of debian
basically what that means is that canonical's employers are paid only to copy and paste
I would like to sign a contract of indefinite duration immediately in this case even on minimum wage

ps johncrista17172 (johncrista239) tell me GTA3 did they put abandonware?
I was surprised to see that you posted a link to this game publicly
but by checking I see that it is no longer marketed

Did you follow https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting ?

The comment from johncrista17172 is just spam and is misusing your question document for posting a dubious link. Please ignore it. It will probably be removed soon, anyhow.

as I say it doesn't work their debian report form
impossible to send anything its not valid
so please stop insisting on it
if you want to help on this subject and manage to do it dear debian
and done well and it will help but telling me to do it when I have already told you 3 times that the form refuses to be sent from dear me does not help at all
and for ubuntu how I say it is a canonical user who is wrong here on this subject to resolve this problem definitively
it is not up to the community to act but up to canonical to react
at their level they reacted to delete johncrista17172's comment
but to redo a package while it takes 15 minutes for a person to experiment there are canonical expensive people to do it
damn, they asked for 15 minutes of work which should have been done the same day or at the latest tomorrow and several days later it's still not done it's clearly fucking up the world

It seems that you are using the Debian bug tracker in a wrong way.
The web page https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?package=desmume lists only those bug reports, that have already been created. If you want to create a new bug report in Debian's bug tracker, then you have to follow the steps in https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting (sending an e-mail with a predefined format to a certain e-mail address).

And for Ubuntu:
Which Ubuntu release are you running?
What is wrong with desmume version 0.9.11?
Ubuntu is no rolling release. That means that packages in already-published Ubuntu releases are updated only if there is a strong reason to do so. The fact that a newer version is available, usually is not a reason for a new package in an older Ubuntu release, but it is a candidate for being provided in the Ubuntu release in development (i.e. noble, 24.04)
see also FAQ #3037: “no rolling release”.

Is there missing or broken functionality in desmume 0.9.11?

Can you help with this problem?
