Unable to log in but only with gnome safe default

When I log in with my user name ID and Password, desktop doesnot open but with a blank white screen unresponsive. But if I change session to Safe Gnome it opens the desk top correctly but informing problem in start up script.

Hello

I'm assuming you are getting to a login prompt.
The easiest way to fix this (In my opinion)

1. Login
2. sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
3. type your password
4. Follow the prompts....the defaults should get you up and running
