Deluge

Asked by Man1aC

I have Ubuntu 7.10. and I have installed Deluge. Until yesterday' s update it worked a charm, but now when I start it says opening Deluge and it just dissapears. When I open System Monitor it says Deluge is active process, but sleeping and it's eating up to 70% of my processor. What's the problem?? Can someone also say what's the second best torrent client for Ubuntu cause I tried a few of them and they were nothing compared to Deluge.
Thx.

Hello !

Can you please launch Deluge from command line, and paste the output here ?

As for the best Torrent client, my choice goes to Azureus, but it's a personal choice ... Freeloader is also good for small files (it's really light but has few advanced capabilities).

Regards,
Benoît

Here it is:
no existing Deluge session
Starting new Deluge session...
deluge_core; using libtorrent 0.13.0.0. Compiled with NDEBUG.
Applying preferences
Capping download to -1 bytes per second
Capping upload to -1 bytes per second
This time it didn't show me anything, the processes just went up 50%.

Isn't the best solution, i know, but removing Deluge configuration make Deluge restart
rm -fr .config/deluge

Now i'm using Deluge 0.5.6
you can find deb packages for Ubuntu on the Deluge website http://delug-torrent.org/
here the rel. 0.5.6 -> http://download.deluge-torrent.org/index.php?dir=ubuntu/gutsy/0.5.6/

Hi there.

I'm running a fully updated 7.10.

When I'm downloading anything through deluge, all other http-traffic seems to stop working (that is, fails to find any pages on the internet). Some things, like IM continues to work (that's why I believe it might be http-related).

Know anything about this problem?

Will do. I hae a question though. It seems I can't install the latest version through the Synaptic, I can do it only installing deb package. Can you help me??

I usually use gdebi to install .deb packages directly from Firefox

To install gdebi
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install gdebi

today i have upgraded my Deluge http://deluge-torrent.org/Changelog
from http://deluge-torrent.org/downloads-ubuntu
using gdebi

But you can also download the .deb package and install it with:
sudo dpkg -i name_of_package.deb

To make Deluge start, i deleted my Deluge old config (may be .not. requested)
rm -fr $HOME/.config/deluge

Be sure no old release of deluge is already running
ps aux | grep -i deluge

then start deluge from Applications->Internet->Deluge .....

Thanks, but I don't know how to remove the older version of deluge; the thing is that I had two versions, and the version that is still installed but not present in the Synaptic repository(or at least, it is not marked as installed) is 0.5.4.1-1ubunutu3 (gutsy) and I don't know how to remove it.

When I open the .deb package it says: An older version is available in a software channel. Generally you are recommended to install the version from the software channel, since it is usually better supported.

Yes this is the latest Deluge release grabbed directly from home page of Deluge.
..."An older version is available in a software channel"
Ok in the official Ubuntu repository there is a previous better supported release, but if it still don't work try this new one.

Simply install it..., i use it without any issue.

It seems that my problems with the Deluge and torrents are never ending. Sorry to bug you, but now the torrents are standing still. It only says connecting and it does not do anything(I even tried with the high seeded files). Maybe it has to do something with the ports?? The fact is that I have static IP and My connection to the Internet is through big intranet which has only one way out via router and I don't have access to it, so I can't forward my ports. Maybe there are alternative ports for downloading torrents??

Surely into a usual intranet with serious secure management p2p ports are closed, i think and i hope all ports are closed by default.

Hope this help

It looks like the admin decided to close the default torrent ports(6881-6889). Now I'm sc****. Thanks anyway.
