Filesystem check at boot time disabled: feature or bug?

Asked by b3nmore

I've noticed recently for several fresh Xubuntu 12.04 installations (alternate and desktop), that on all partitions formated by the installer the filesystem check at boot time is disabled. E.g.

sudo tune2fs -l /dev/sda6 | grep -iE " mount count|check "
Maximum mount count: -1
Check interval: 0 (<none>)

Now I'm wondering is this a "feature" or a bug?
