Need a RAID controller

Asked by Michael McSherry

Looking for a SATA 6Gbit , at least 4 drive capable, and fully compatible with ubuntu server. I have 3 1TB 7500RPM drive and a pair of 300GB drive for storage. What is the best solution so far as disk/partition layout as a server? T think that I would use the 300GB drives as system drives in mirror mode, and 3 TB drives for general storage. What server level would you use at this point, 10.4LTS?

Any supported version of Ubuntu Server would work for hosting files from hardware (or software) RAID. You're right to investigate what hardware will work on a Linux-based system, and actionparsnip's link should help you with that. As for what version of Ubuntu Server to use, if you want a long-term support version, you should install 10.04 LTS. If you want the latest version with all the most recent software, use 11.04.

Can you help with this problem?
