I suggest you clean install Oneiric or Precise. Maverick has about 50 days of support left in it, then there will be non more updates and no more support. I wouldn't waste your time.

My pc cant handle unity and I dont have enough data to start all over with a new distro.
Bandwidth is very limited
I would like to use debdelta to save as much data that needs to be downloaded as possible.
Hopefully someone has the "how to" for beginners. But thanks for the advice actionparsnip

You don't have to use Unity, you can install Xubuntu or KUbuntu and Unity will not even be installed.....

debdelta-upgrade appears to be its own command, and not an option of apt-get

Try:

sudo apt-get update && sudo debdelta-upgrade && sudo apt-get upgrade

Hi again, I have installed Xubuntu 11.04 and still cant get debdelta
working. Many students and old peeps (such as I) cannot afford the
mobile broadband costs for all the updates so debdelta would be a boon.
Have there been any advances in integrating it into ubuntu yet please?
Thanks
Miles
