recover 1 folder of pictures on broken HDD

Hi,

I've tried creating a copy of my broken HDD using GNU ddrescue but without success. The process gets stucked at "splitting block". Anyways I'm really new to that kind of stuff so I wonder it's possible to save only 1 folder of pictures that was on the desktop because that's all I really need.

Why do you not have a backup made while the data was good/consistent?

I had a back up but it was 6 months old. So i lost all the pictures I took during those 6 months. So if I understand, there is no way to recuperate these pictures?

Try foremost or scalpel. I suggest you review your backup regime.
