ddclient fails to install perfectly

Asked by FrancisT

This is an answer:

When you install ddclient and attempt to run it with "/etc/init.d/ddclient start", it reports
"To run ddclient as a daemon, please set run_daemon to 'true' in /etc/default/ddclient" this is not quite helpful

To get it to run the file /etc/default/ddclient needs to be created (it is not created by default) and to contain the line

run_daemon="true";

Creation should be done via sudo (e.g. sudo mousepad /etc/default/ddclient )

Hiya,

I'm just making a FAQ entry for Dynamic DNS. I believe that the information you supplied is included on the help page, but feel free to log in and improve the notes on that page.

Here's the help page:
FAQ #515: “DynamicDNS: Using ddclient”.

In the FAQ I don't think you are in fact quite following the standard install method for a new install under jaunty when you copy the email explanation. For example the line 'daemon_interval="300" ' is in /etc/ddclient.conf with the current ddclient version.

I'll try installing it on a new machine and see what steps are required.
