dcraw and ufraw need to be updated

Asked by apinunt

Some time ago a number of us replaced our digital cameras with new models, and as we work with raw images we quickly found that dcraw and ufraw did not support the new sensor dimensions.
An email to Dave Coffin resulted in patches to dcraw.c within hours, but now some months later it seems that no update has been made in the repositories, and a quick look shows that ubuntu 12.04 has no plans to update dcraw and ufraw from version 8.99-1 and 0.18-1.
What will it take to get these 2 very important programs brought up to date?

i am also affected by the poor version number of dcraw in precise pangolin (8.99) for it cannot decode Samsong's raw SRW format (which is a modified TIFF format). upstream version 9.16 can do it flawlessly.

Can you help with this problem?
