dash preview for local music not working

Asked by krishnan sampath

the dash preview for local music content no longer works.
i'm using ubuntu 12.10.. when i right click any music file that is present on my harddrive(internal) and showing in the dash, i 'm getting a very weird display.. the length of the track is not displayed correctly and i have to option of playing from the dash too but when i click the play button nothing happens
however, the dash preview for online music still works

Hi ,

try to install the package "ubuntu-restricted-extras" that will allow you to play restricted formats (like mp3.... etc)

Open a terminal (CTRL+ALT+T) and run this command

~$ sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

When installation finish , try to reinstall the unity-music-lens

~$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall unity-lens-music

and last

~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a

Reboot your pc and see if works now.

Thanks

Hello and thanks for the reply
i have already installed ubuntu restricted extras and i tried reinstalling the music lens but the problem still persists
i'm able to play the file in both rhythmbox and banshee without any problems... its only the preview feature of dash that is the problem... i cannot play or open local music content from Dash PREVIEW... i can left click and open the content in the music player :)

I understand what you say , just checked to my 12.10 and works as it should.

Did you try other mp3s ?

This seems like a problem with the integration of Rhythmbox and unity-lenses-music .

ok i found the problem and the(part) solution... the problem was banshee.. if i set as the source as all with banshee as my default player then local files do not get previewed... but if i specifically set the source as rhythmbox in the dash filters i'm able to preview
now my next question... will dash preview ever come for music files sourced from banshee??
