Printer Problem

Asked by martinehancock

I am new to Ubuntu. I have a Canon Pixma iP1200 printer and I cannot get it to work with ubuntu. I managed to download it into my computer but then noticed when I went to the printer section under Canon it was not in the list. it says that my printer is the default printer but when I try to print it says printing but it does not. I was unable to download the Cd for the printer. it says " Cannot open/home/martinehancock/desktop canon.exe. No application suitable for automatic installation is available for handling this kind of file"
Please tell me how to fix this,
Thank you

martinehancock,
There is a page for this printer on the openprinting.org website (http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Canon-PIXMA_iP1200). They recommend using the driver for the PIXMA 2200. Unfortunately, this driver is not included in Ubuntu at this time. However, this link provides a driver : http://www.canon-europe.com/support/software/linux/index.asp and instructions. I haven't tried this myself, but it is a start, at least.

            Regards,
                     --Matt
