Cannot print .pdf files on HP laserjet

When trying to print .pdf files on a HP Laserjet P1005, I get a few smudges on the page. However if I open a terminal and type (for example) lp mydoc.pdf - it prints successfully. I am confused and would like to know what to try next. I am running latest versions of Ubuntu and HPLIP, etc.

I seem to be using the document viewer not Adobe - how silly is that?

.pdf's print successfully from GIMP Image Viewer! albeit at one page at a time.

Am now getting Adobe from the Ubuntu Software Centre

(feeling rather sheepish........why didn't I think of this.........)

Will advise once it has downloaded and installed.

K that works with the Adobe reader - really cannot imagine why I didn't think of this myself - must be having senior moments!

Think outside the box. Sound advice for life in general too. I suggest you log a bug with the first app you used.
