Canon are not very forthcoming with drivers for Linux.

There is no open driver for Linux but there is

http://www.zedonet.com/en_p_turboprint_driver.phtml?printer=Canon_PIXMA_MP490

It will cost you $30 USD

Zedonet software doesn't offer scanner support.

This is a frustrating problem

On my system, it automatically installed but nothing prints. I played around with other drivers and got no joy!

I installed the cannon drivers from cannon directly, just extract the files, and run "install.sh" in a terminal window, printer installed, easy as:)
