I've got exactly the same problem. I have an MP240 CANON printer and it was working previously with earlier ubuntu versions. Please help!

Take a look at the files installed by the canon-capt-driver
Do a 'dpkg -L cndrv-capt_x.xx' to see install locations, and check the permissions. All files should belong to root.
Change the permissions and restart ccpd and cups.

Canon LBP2900B on Ubuntu 9.10 x86. (using cndrv-capt_1.70-1_amd64.deb)
