Unable to find suitable printer driver for Lexmark printer X3480 printer.

Asked by allen hartshorn

I am new to Ubuntu. I am using latest version of Ubuntu (9.04 Jaunty Jackalope) but I am unable to print using my Lexmark X3480 printer. Have tried and correctly installed, recommended and a variety of printer drivers without success. The PC system says its printing, however, printer does not respond. Printer works ok from laptop using xp. Interface cable between PC and printer ok as I can load pictures from printer onto pc. It appears to be a driver problem. Any solutions would be welcome.

Lexmark do not support Linux very readily. I had a websearch round with only sob stories. They don't even have redhat RPMs you could convert with alien

Unfortunately Linux isnt as supported as Windows is yet, so buying super compatible hardware is advisable rather than buyiong what is cheap.

Maybe someone on here knows a compatible driver that will make it go.

Yeah, you pretty much have to check http://www.openprinting.org/printer_list.cgi and www.lexmark.com to see what is supported and what isn't. Lexmark doesn't support Linux well at all. Doesn't like open source operating systems last I knew; I have an old Lexmark that never worked with Linux. Stopped buying them.
