can't stop printer from printing (epsoncx8400)

Asked by larry bennett

Was printing from a blog site which I have done before. Got up to 12 of 36, when it started over at 1 of 12. Shut off the printer (Epson CX8400 series) and clicked off printer icon at top of page hoping that would clear memory. Phoned Epson trouble shoot line, they had me do certain functions, and told me the printer has no memory, so their is nothing I can do, as the scanner copy printed fine, said I should contact assistance from Firefox/Linux/whatever; and guess what? here I am. The moment I turn on the printer, it begins printing the same thing all over again, it is driving me crazy and wasting paper and ink.
I seem incapable of turning it off. I tried unplugging the printer, but that does no good, the only way is to disconnect the printer from the computer, but as soon as I reconnect and turn on the printer, it starts all over again.

Open Applications > Accessoires > Manage Print Jobs. Hope the file is listed. If it's listed, you can kill it. And the printing will stop.

Hope it helps.

I managed to stop it from printing, but like so many things I do on the computer, I'm not sure how! I think when I got an "error" notice, l right clicked and hit a couple of options which finally seems to have
rid the queue that was seemingly causing the trouble.
However, I have made note of your advice and will certainly try it if and when it becomes a problem again. Thank you very much Peter. I'm sure this will help others having the same problem as I.

Nice one chaps :))
That "Manage Print Jobs" looks just like the Windows one :) - i used to have it permanently open in a Windows-only office where we were always running into printing problems. I have just right-clicked it and "Add this launcher to panel" so that i have quick access to this when i need it, ie at a time when i'm likely to be in a panic and unable to remember where anything is. lol

Thanks and regards from
Tom :)

Yeah, but there is a difference. The "Manage Print Jobs" in Windows doesn't work correctly. And the Ubuntu version works!
