Unable to print from Brother DCP-130C Printer setup OK

Asked by Don Macintosh

Printer Brother DCP-130C Prints without problems on the Vista OS. Ubuntu found it ok and set it up ready to go but I am unable to get a print out. (Cups /var/run/cups/cups.sock )

Administration - Printer Configuration shows "Local Host" The Printer (Brother DCP-130C) shows as being ready with the big Green Tick on the icon.

Right Clicking and selection View Print Queue. does not show any document is the queue. I am now up to Job 16, nothing has printed and I cannot find any listed.

Printer Properties seem to all be Ok and printing a test Page Shows it has been submitted as job 19

Using Printing TroubleShooter test page shows Job 20 on the DCP-130C printer was completed, but no print. No was then selected and an error log was created, it said Sorry unable to work out the problem. A copy of the Diagnostic Output is attached.

Any help would be appreciated.

This is driving me mad!

There is no problems with the connection to the printer.

The printer shows as being connected, the Brother DCP-130C has two slots for CF and SD digital camera cards, any card inserted immediately shows up in Ubuntu with all the pictures.

All print jobs are processed and show in the Document Print Status (DCP-130C) under Completed Jobs as processed and Completed, so far I have over 30 Jobs of all types from various applications showing as being processed and completed.

At the moment I am using Ubuntu through Windows until I can get the printer to print, then it will be loaded as my operating system. (Vista sucs! and I cannot see me installing Win7).

Please is there anything else I can try.

Thanks for a great OS,

Don Macintosh

Looks like your printer has been set up with the wrong driver for Brother DCP-1200?
To get your DCP 130C printer working you first need to install this driver package: brother-cups-wrapper-bh7
Then you need to manually reinstall your printer in System > Administration > Printing (DCP 130C should be there after installing the above driver package).

Thanks Pascal, I had already downloaded and installed the Driver/Cups from the DCP130C from the Brother site but it made no difference.

Until I can resolve this print problem I am running Ubuntu within Windows. (the printer is ok when used with Windows)

With Ubuntu the printer shows as being fully installed with the green arrow showing on the icon, and that the printer is connected to the local host.

However when I try and print a job it is processed, and shows on the "Document Print Status" as processing. It also shows the other jobs that have been sent to the printer as completed.

Did you try the brother-cups-wrapper-bh7 package in universe, it is specially packed for ubuntu and should support the DCP 130C printer!
Packages can be installed as described here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallingSoftware#Installing%20a%20Package
