As noted in the last comment I posted on this, I have managed to get the printer to work OK.

Would it be possible to simplify/clarify somewhere what the different connections made by printers such as this are and mean? That is, when you plug this printer in, you get several 'printers' showing up in CUPS and in the Settings GUI. As some of them don't actually work, could they be either made to work or hidden in some way?

BTW, the Ubuntu Debugging printer problems WIKI could usefully be changed to reflect that for a USB printer you shouldn't expect to see any /dev/usb/lp* at all (or at least that seems to be the case for this printer).

It is actually very straightforward to get the XP-960 working if it is on the
network. Please see

  https://wiki.debian.org/CUPSQuickPrintQueues

What application does the Settings GUI belong to and what does it show?
Also, do you observe this issue in the print dialogs of other applications?
A listing of what you see would be useful.

> ...you shouldn't expect to see any /dev/usb/lp* at al...

The absence of this device is perplexing, as are a few other things. Your
lsusb output has

Bus 001 Device 006: ID 04b8:1109 Seiko Epson Corp. XP-960 Series

That's fine, but in the /dev/bus/usb/*/* output we see

  crwxrwxrwx 1 root root 189, 5 Nov 2 17:53 /dev/bus/usb/001/006.

There isn't an ACL. See

  https://wiki.debian.org/Scanner

The lpinfo -v output should also have a "direct usb" entry. You appear to
have a poorly USB setup.
