Brenda,

Since you're posting your question here, I'll assume you bought the version that ships with Ubuntu.

I __highly__ recommend giving OpenOffice a try first, before downloading Microsoft Office.

OpenOffice is accessible via Applications - Office

If you want information regarding the installation of Microsoft Word in Ubuntu, I recommend visiting the following link:

As for your printer, I'm afraid I don't know where to get the drivers or if it will work with Ubuntu out-of-the-box.

It's quite likely that ubuntu already has a driver for your printer installed. Try to configure your printer using System > Preferences > Printing. Select "New", and select your printer. After the printer is configured, you should be able to use it.

Hi

Have you had much luck with OpenOffice?

To set the defaults to M$ Office formats just go up to the "Tools" menu and then all the way down to "Options" at the bottom. A pop-up box appears and about halfway down the left-hand side just click on the + sign beside "Load/Save". Click on VBA Properties and tick all 6 options. Then click on "Microsoft Office" and again tick all 6 options there. Now go up a little and click on "General" - at the bottom change the box beside "Text document" from "Open Document Text" to the option just before it in the list "Microsoft Word (97/2000/Xp)". Then change from "Text Document" to "Spreadsheet" and change the option beside that from "Open Document Spreadsheet" to "Microsoft Excel (97/2000/Xp)" which is 2 backwards back up the list - don't use the one that says "Template". Finally change "Spreadsheet" to "Presentation" and roll that one back 2 to "Microsoft PowerPoint (97/2000/Xp)"

Now all your documents will be saved in the standard formats used by people with M$ Office. They are slightly less safe formats and have often been found to carry viruses and other malware but they are the only kind of formats that most Microsoft users know how to read. At least while you're in Ubuntu any viruses will be completely ineffective.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

lol, to find OpenOffice just go up to the top taskbar and click on

Applications - Office - Writer

(or "Word Processor") or Spreasheet if you wanted to use something very like Excel

If you are still having trouble with this then please post it as a new question. Only the most recent questions tend to get looked at so posting/re-posting a question just before america arrives online after work/school gives the best chance of getting a good few answers - such is the nature of the internet.
