What brand is it? HP, Canon or something else?

It's an HP. Linux supports a Photosmart 7960. Maybe this helps. If you like to install this driver, do the following:

1: Click System > Administration > Printing
2: Click New Printer and follow the instructions
3: Choose HP and select the Photosmart 7960 driver.

Or use the homepage: www.hp.com. Choose Support & Drivers and follow the instructions.

If previous answer doesn' t solve please try to install hplip.

How to install hplip package

First please check if you hp printer is supported by hplip http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/supported_devices/index.html

Then please open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install hplip

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Then to setup hplip type:

sudo hp-setup
